Case Study

ArcStone redesigned Beacon Interfaith Housing’s website with accessibility improvements and optimized donation funnel.

A desktop computer screen displays the Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative website. The header shows the Beacon logo and navigation links including “What We Do,” “Who We Are,” “Get Involved,” “Blog,” and a blue “Donate” button. Below a colorful banner with abstract illustrations, the page content highlights four sections: Who we are (a collaboration of congregations and housing advocates), What we do (building affordable homes and advocating for policy solutions), Where we work (serving over 1,200 residents in the Twin Cities metro), and How to help (encouraging community engagement, donations, and advocacy). A group photo of people standing in front of a building appears in the left column.

The design features a colorful flower-like icon made of house-shaped elements in orange, pink, teal, green, and yellow, arranged in a circular star pattern. To the right, the word “Beacon” is written in large dark gray letters, with the tagline “Interfaith Housing Collaborative” in smaller uppercase text below.

Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative is a faith-based nonprofit organization that advocates for affordable housing solutions across communities of faith. As a collaborative bringing together multiple congregations and community partners, Beacon needed a digital platform that could effectively communicate their housing advocacy mission while providing clear pathways for supporters to contribute to affordable housing initiatives through donations, volunteer engagement, and policy advocacy.

Our Role

  • Strategy & User Experience Design
  • WordPress Redesign & Development
  • Accessibility Implementation
  • Call-to-Action Optimization
  • Donation Funnel Development
  • Visual Hierarchy Enhancement
  • Ongoing Hosting & Support

The Challenge:

Beacon’s existing website suffered from multiple barriers that prevented effective mission communication and supporter engagement. The outdated design lacked visual clarity and accessibility features, making it difficult for community members to understand Beacon’s work and get involved. Most critically, the donation pathway was poorly structured, creating friction for supporters wanting to contribute to affordable housing initiatives. The site’s weak calls-to-action and unclear user flow meant that Beacon’s powerful advocacy message wasn’t translating into the supporter engagement needed to advance their housing justice work.

The header has two banners with buttons reading “Why Are People Homeless?” and “Donate to End Homelessness.” Below is the Beacon logo with navigation tabs: Home, Homewords, Who We Are, What We Do, and What It Takes. The right sidebar includes a search bar, a “Receive Our Newsletter” button, and a highlighted box for the campaign “3 Families Moving Forward.” The main content area features articles titled Francis speaks truth to power and Recent reads on who needs housing, alongside an orange button labeled “Opening Doors: See Our Work In Person.” The background features a faded black-and-white photo of a smiling family.

Our Approach

ArcStone implemented a comprehensive WordPress redesign focused on mission clarity and supporter conversion. We developed a mission-forward homepage structure that immediately communicates Beacon’s housing advocacy work while creating clear pathways for different types of engagement. The redesign prioritized accessibility improvements including contrast fixes and enhanced visual hierarchy, ensuring the platform welcomes all community members including those with disabilities.

Our strategic approach emphasized optimizing calls-to-action throughout the user journey, creating multiple opportunities for supporters to engage whether through donations, volunteer opportunities, or advocacy actions. The improved donation funnel streamlines the giving process while the enhanced campaign support features enable Beacon to promote specific housing initiatives more effectively.
