From Necessity to Innovation: How ArcStone’s Journey Led to the Creation of Insi

An eagle that's pixelated on one side.

For over 25 years, ArcStone has been building websites that matter. We’ve had the privilege of working with nonprofits, government agencies, and mission-driven organizations to create digital experiences that serve their communities. But it was one particular client experience nearly a decade ago that set us on a path we never expected—a path that would eventually lead to the creation of our new spin-off company, Insi.

The Wake-Up Call That Changed Everything

In 2015, one of our larger nonprofit clients received a letter that changed everything. After years of leading in their field and operating a very successful online presence, they were informed that their website had been audited for accessibility compliance by the federal government—and it wasn’t good news. Their funding was at risk if the website wasn’t remediated to meet accessibility standards.

As their digital marketing partner, we knew we had to act fast. Fortunately, making the necessary changes was straightforward for our development team. We understood the code, the structure, and exactly what needed to be fixed. Within a week, we had addressed every accessibility issue and brought the site into compliance.

But the experience left us with a nagging problem: finding tools that could make this work easier and more proactive was surprisingly difficult. The accessibility tools available at the time were either too expensive for most of our nonprofit clients, too complicated for non-technical teams to use effectively, or simply didn’t provide the depth of scanning our clients needed.

Years of Searching for the Right Solution

Between 2016 and 2020, ArcStone made a strategic decision to get much more invested in accessibility. We recruited accessibility experts, expanded our knowledge base, provided free webinars to educate clients, baked accessibility into our processes, and systematically evaluated many tools on the market.

What we discovered was frustrating: there simply wasn’t a tool that worked really well for WordPress sites that most of our clients could afford. Enterprise solutions were robust but cost-prohibitive for nonprofits and smaller government agencies. Free tools provided basic scans but missed the nuanced issues that real users with disabilities encounter. Overlay solutions created a false sense of security while often making websites less accessible for the very people they claimed to help.

Our government and nonprofit clients were caught in the middle—facing real compliance requirements with limited budgets and needing solutions that their teams could actually understand and implement.

The Decision to Build Our Own

By 2024, it became clear that if we wanted to truly serve our clients’ accessibility needs, we would have to build the solution ourselves. We began developing a WordPress accessibility tool that was specifically designed with our clients in mind—government agencies and nonprofits who needed genuine compliance but couldn’t afford enterprise-level solutions.

Our approach was different from the start. Instead of creating another generic scanning tool, we built something that understood WordPress inside and out. We integrated the tool directly into the WordPress admin interface, eliminating the workflow disruption that comes with external tools. Most importantly, we used virtual browser technology to scan websites the same way assistive technologies and real users experience them—catching issues that basic code analysis tools completely miss.

We didn’t just want to create another accessibility checker. We wanted to build a tool that would make WordPress sites genuinely accessible, not just compliant on paper.

Introducing Insi: Accessibility That Actually Works

Today, we’re excited to announce that our accessibility technology has grown into its own company. Insi represents everything we’ve learned about accessibility, WordPress development, and serving mission-driven organizations over the past quarter-century.

What makes Insi different isn’t just the technology—though our virtual browser scanning approach does find significantly more accessibility issues than traditional tools. It’s the understanding that accessibility isn’t just about compliance; it’s about creating digital experiences that truly serve everyone.

What Makes Insi Special

WordPress-Native Integration

Unlike external tools that require switching between tabs and platforms, Insi works seamlessly within your existing WordPress workflow. Your team can scan content, identify issues, and track progress without disrupting their established processes.

Virtual Browser Technology

Insi doesn’t just analyze code—it experiences your website the way real users do. Our virtual browser technology renders pages and interacts with content exactly as assistive technologies do, identifying issues that code-only scanners miss entirely.

Visual Issue Identification

When Insi finds an accessibility problem, it doesn’t just tell you about it—it shows you exactly where it is on your webpage with visual highlighting and clear explanations. No more guessing or interpreting technical jargon.

Affordable Enterprise-Quality Scanning

We’ve designed Insi’s pricing to remove barriers, not create them. Insi provides enterprise-quality accessibility testing at a price point that works for nonprofit budgets and enables corporate card purchases for larger organizations.

Real Solutions, Not Overlay Band-Aids

Insi helps you actually fix your website’s accessibility issues rather than covering them up with overlay widgets. When you use Insi, you’re making genuine improvements that benefit all users, not just creating the appearance of compliance.

Built by People Who Understand Your Workflow

What sets Insi apart is that it’s built by people who live the daily reality of managing WordPress websites. We understand the pressure of tight deadlines, limited budgets, and the need to balance multiple priorities. We’ve designed Insi to fit into your existing processes, not force you to adopt entirely new workflows.

Whether you’re a government agency needing Section 508 compliance, a nonprofit with ADA requirements, or an organization that simply wants to serve all users effectively, Insi provides the tools and guidance you need to succeed.
