The Kentucky Association of Highway Contractors (KAHC) is a member association representing the transportation and construction industry across Kentucky. As an established organization serving contractors, suppliers, and industry professionals, KAHC needed to modernize their digital presence while maintaining their professional reputation and serving their diverse membership base.

KAHC required a website redesign that would better serve both their aging membership and younger industry professionals, while transitioning from paper-based resources to a comprehensive digital platform that could grow with the organization’s evolving needs.

The Challenge:

KAHC’s existing website was creating barriers to member engagement and organizational efficiency. The outdated platform was choppy and difficult to navigate, particularly challenging for older members who needed clearer, more accessible content presentation. Critical member resources like calendars and login portals were buried deep in the site architecture, while the organization’s branding was significantly underutilized.

The association was also transitioning away from costly paper-based member directories, requiring a digital solution that could centralize member resources and provide sophisticated sorting and tagging capabilities. With over 25 pages of content to manage, KAHC needed an intuitive content management system that internal staff could maintain independently.

Our Approach

ArcStone partnered with KAHC to execute a comprehensive WordPress redesign focused on accessibility, usability, and member engagement. Building on our previous successful collaboration on recovery stories and events pages, we developed a mobile-first approach that prioritized the needs of KAHC’s diverse membership.

Our strategy centered on creating a cleaner, more logical site architecture through a completely redesigned sitemap and information hierarchy. We elevated critical member tools by moving calendar and login elements prominently to the homepage, ensuring members could quickly access the resources they needed most. The redesign retained KAHC’s brand integrity while refreshing the visual presentation to reflect the professionalism and expertise of Kentucky’s highway construction industry, and integrated AMO directory functionality with advanced sorting and tagging capabilities to create a powerful digital replacement for paper-based member directories.

Technical implementations included comprehensive SEO optimization, updated photography that better represented the industry, custom slider and footer designs, and a complete migration of news and newsletters into an organized blog format. We provided extensive staff training to ensure KAHC could independently manage all aspects of their digital presence.
