Student Leadership Network called on ArcStone to create a website that would help them better serve and engage with their audiences, and drive their mission forward.

Student Leadership Network provides educational opportunities for young people from diverse and underserved communities. They've been changing lives and working towards educational equity for nearly 25 years. In 1996, SLN started The Young Women's Leadership School of East Harlem (TYWLS), the first all-girls school to open in the United States in thirty years. Today, they operate dozens of single-gender schools nationwide and impact over 10,000 students every year. With a vision of expanding educational opportunities for underserved youth, SLN needed a website that was as exceptional as their work.

Katie Kohlbeck

Content Marketing Manager

Our team knew that a full website redesign was long overdue so when we had the opportunity to undertake this project, it was important to us to work with an agency that would take the time to fully understand our needs and bring a fresh lens to the process. The team at Arcstone was a pleasure to work with and we were really pleased with their constant communication and flexibility throughout the project. The feedback on our new website has been overwhelmingly positive so far. By incorporating engaging elements like a blog section and interactive content, our new website has already proven to be an incredibly valuable tool for internal and external stakeholders alike in furthering our mission of equalizing education.

The Challenge:

Student Leadership Network was seeking an agency to redesign a website that would meet their goals of improving the user experience for donors and partners and to better encourage volunteers and donations. They wanted a website that served as a hub for their community of parents, teachers, students, and more.

The site they were operating on did not present their vision or who they were in an engaging and user-friendly way. They wanted a site that was sophisticated and polished, and one that showcased their compelling work and inspired their audiences.

Before starting the website redesign, ArcStone had worked with Student Leadership Network creating small improvements to their website that they wanted to carry over, like an Alumni Portal.

Functionality and accessibility were essential to the new website so the SLN team worked hard to identify all of the issues with their current site so our redesign team could directly address and resolve them.

Our Approach

Since we had worked with Student Leadership Network before, we approached the redesign collaboratively with their team. We looked to their audiences to guide us through the redesign process. A key goal of the new website was user experience, so we wanted to get a full understanding of what SLN's audiences wanted in an online experience.

Our redesign process always starts with thorough discovery and planning and blueprint creation to gauge the full scope of the project.

While Student Leadership Network like most nonprofits has multiple audiences, engaging donors and potential partners online was a key aspect of the redesign. Our development and design team determined the most effective templates and best practices to ensure the website would engage with those particular audiences.

We went into the redesign process with a clear view of goals and deliverables and leaned on the SLN team to help us use their vision to drive the project.

Reviewing the Results

We wanted to use our already established relationship with Student Leadership Network to execute a redesign project that met all of their goals and would drive their mission forward. With such an important vision and a wide-ranging audience, Student Leadership Network needed a website that would speak to their partners, beneficiaries, and donors.

The resulting website is interactive, user-friendly, and polished. The site is easy to navigate and it represents the powerhouse that is Student Leadership Network. SLN supports thousands of young people growing up in diverse and underserved communities, and we are thrilled to be able to support their new online presence and help them to continue their incredible work.
