In the last few weeks, there has been what feels like backwards shift in reproductive rights in this country. The supreme court is standing aside so-to-speak as southern states aim to create restrictive abortion laws that can set us back decades in progress.

The court is set to hear Texas’ case to create a law banning abortions after as early as six weeks, challenging Roe V. Wade, a 1973 law that made abortion a fundamental right and gave the power of decision to women, and not to the state.

While all of this is happening around us, we want to highlight the organizations that continue to fight for womens rights – from abortion to economic equality and beyond. Read on for some incredible Minnesota nonprofits supporting women’s rights today.

MN Now

Through intersectional grassroots activistism, MN NOW promotes feminist ideals and societal change to achieve and protect the equal rights of all women in Minnesota. The organization has been fighting for equality and justice since 1971 and continues to work toward social, political, and economic equality for women.

Women Winning

One of the most essential ways to push pro-choice agenda in politics is to elect pro-choice women to public office. Women Winning is on a mission to do so. The organization is building a statewide movement dedicated to placing pro-choice women in all levels of political office. They started back in 1982 as a bipartisan group of women who recognized that there was a dire need for women representation in government. Today, they continue to fight for and support pro-choice women in political office.

YWCA Minnespolis
