3 Great Plugins for WordPress Sites

By Erin H. | November 2015

Plugins can add advanced functionality to a WordPress website easily without users having to deal with code. Here at ArcStone we rely on a few key plugins to help us build sites as efficiently as possible. These are three of our favorites:

Gravity Forms

Gravity Forms makes it incredibly easy to add forms, polls, and quizzes to your site. The process is quick and intuitive for building out even the most complicated of forms!

  • Quickly add a title and description to forms
  • Customize the confirmation message users receive after filling out a form. You can even send users to a separate thank you page upon submission, which is great for tracking site conversions.
  • Enter the email addresses of everyone from your business to whom email notifications should go for new form submissions.
  • Choose from a huge number of form fields to capture names, addresses, email addresses, website URLs, pricing information, and file uploads - just to name a few.
  • Create a registration “wizard”: break up a form across multiple pages and display a progress bar to let your users know where they are in the registration process.
  • Running a contest? Limit the number of entries you will accept.
  • Limited time offer? Select the specific time period you would like your form to be accessible and Gravity Forms will automatically display and then hide the form on the dates / times you specify.
  • Running an email marketing campaign? Connect forms to a MailChimp account with an optional add-on. This is a huge timesaver - simply link a MailChimp list to your Gravity form and any new contacts will automatically be added to your MailChimp list.
  • Easily create interactive forms, like quizzes and polls, to engage with site visitors. [This requires Gravity forms add-ons.]

Price: $39/year for use on a single site (no access to add-ons) or $99/year to use on three sites (includes access to add-ons).

Yoast SEO

Yoast SEO is a fantastic tool for optimizing SEO. It is quick to set up and from there, can be further customized.

  • Add blog post titles and meta descriptions. You can set up a template for all pages or use the Yoast meta box to optimize each post’s title and meta description.
  • Use the preview functionality to see what your listing will look like in Google.
  • Enter your focus keyword(s) which will show you how that word or keyword phrase would appear (in bold) when it matches with a user’s search query.
  • Automatically test the important areas of your content for usage of your focus keyword, helping you to truly optimize your page for SEO.
  • Set up custom breadcrumbs by post type.
  • Automatically keep XML sitemap up to date.
  • Add a piece of content to the beginning and end of posts in RSS feed, allowing you to link back to your blog and the specific blog post. This helps when people are scraping your blog.
  • Easily edit robots.txt and .htaccess files.

Price: Free. There is a paid version, but the free version has all the features we’ve ever needed.

Simple Share Buttons Plus

The functionality of Simple Share Buttons Plus is simple but powerful: it gives site visitors the ability to share content on their social media accounts with the click of a button.

  • Choose from 10 different responsive, retina-ready button sets to match the site’s style.
  • Customize button and hover colors, size, and placement.
  • Use shortcodes to place buttons on site.
  • Choose the image, title, and description that would be selected when people share content.
  • Track number of shares and export share data in a CSV file.

Price: $10/year for use on one site. After one year, license keys need to be renewed, but you get 25% off.
