Does Your Technology Work for You, or do You Work for Your Technology?

ArcStone sat down with one of our favorite partners, Pat Schuler, to discuss how technology impacts business - yesterday, today, and into the future.

Pat Schuler, Founder of the Gemini Resources Group It's hard to imagine a productive day without some kind of technological support. Have you found yourself asking if some of these tools we use to communicate faster are actually helping us get more done? Pat Schuler, founder of The Gemini Resources Group, offered her take on how technology has changed the way we do business.

"10 years ago, you talked to people on the phone," said Pat. "Now, it's a challenge to make that personal connection. We come in to the office, open our email, and see 50 to 500 new emails in our inbox. The demands of Email and IM can suck up our day."

Pat's three-step Action Plan::

  1. Check email for the first time after 10:00 AM. "My clients find this doubles their productivity for the day."
  2. Schedule your day instead of being reactive to everyone else's demands. This includes blocking out 2-4 times for email, returning calls, prospecting, etc.
  3. Give yourself permission to let calls and emails roll through when you need to focus on a project or important meeting.

How does Pat envision the future? "We're seeing a growing demarcation between those who are servant to technology and those who make their technology serve them. It's important to start taking steps today to ensure you are the master."
